Juneteenth Remembered

Juneteenth Banner

Remembering the past shapes our future.

Remembering Juneteenth

has become a staple in the black community to celebrate FREEDOM, culture, and community.  We celebrate a FREEDOM that God gave to everyone at birth but, what God gave, a people took away without any question or care for human life. The question that lingers century over century is why did a people decide to take that FREEDOM which was already granted by the creator of life itself?

The emancipation proclamation was signed January 1, 1863 by Abraham Lincon declaring all enslaved people in the confederate states were free, marking the end of slavery in the United States. Unfortunately, on June 19, 1865, well over two years later, the Union General Gordon Granger, along with 2,000 troops, arrived in Galveston, TX to announce freedom of enslaved people. Therefore, June 19th is the day chosen to celebrate the end of slavery.

Challenges Some Have with Juneteenth

Juneteenth has been met with caution by parts of the black community. Are Black People celebrating slavery, being set free as a gift, the rebuilding of a culture stolen, community, etc., are the questions thrown out during a discussion. At a round table meeting, it seems some black people still feel angry at how a group of people were able to laugh as they took a whip to someone as their skin broke open, hung both men and women, watch babies fall to the ground as they were cut from the mother’s womb while hanging, raped repeatedly and so many other heinous and cruel acts.

“How do you not get angry or stay angry knowing this? Is it better to hide this from the newer generations and as if slavery never existed in the first place”, someone belled out? Another person stated, “How would you explain why so many of ‘a people’ hate and still want to hurt Black People today to the younger generation”.

These horrific crimes against humanity are something one may want to forget or pretend never existed but remembering serves many purposes. A few people, in the group, expressed they would rather not remember yesterday nor celebrate Juneteenth and would rather enjoy the many accomplishments and growth of Black People today. Several stated Juneteenth is a trigger for them and it reminds them not to let their guard down. Others stated they just don’t know how to feel.

The Other Side of The Juneteenth Coin

Within the discussion, there were larger groups of Black People that found a way to ‘heal’ past or ‘see’ but not focus on the enslaver and their ‘why’ but to come together to build, motivate and uplift a culture of people that have been wronged, abused and neglected to strengthen those bonds to become MORE THAN what was PROGRAMMED  into the minds of the enslaved. It is not that you are celebrating the past but just remembering how far you/we have come through it all and that we are still standing, growing, and becoming MORE THAN what was programmed into Black People.

You see the past but instead of anger, which weakens the thought process, it becomes fuel to ignite a group to plan, organize, and fight to not go back to that moment in time. It was stated, “Black People are a chosen people from which others were created”, therefore let our light shine through the masses.

The Light That Shines

Juneteenth is about celebrating our light and how that light has illuminated the way for so many others to find their courage, their dream, their business, their place in a world that was given to them to thrive and walk in. Black People have opened doors for each other, paved the way for many and changing to a PROGRAMMING that fit Black People better. A new programming that includes all of black history (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and higher vibrational frequencies of positive beliefs/affirmations that include:

I LOVE myself, embrace my quirks and will not shrink down for anyone.

I am highly intelligent, capable of seeing past the horizon.

I am creative, capable of creating something magnificent from nothing.

I will stand through the storms swaying back and forth but never breaking.

I am rooted in the foundation of the earth receiving energy and nourishment from the plants.

I walk in my power and light as it is a beacon for the young or the lost to find their way through.

I will do my part to reach back to pull up another because united we stand stronger.

The history that was stolen and/or hidden to keep black people suppressed and depressed is being revealed more daily thanks to the internet. The internet has opened the door to vast knowledge and research to learn the truth about the real history.  Things that were never taught in elementary, middle, and high school nor college level HISTORY class has been a true journey of enlightenment.

Black People are not sprinkles of pepper dusting various aspects of the economy, but are in fact an intricately woven and soaked into the foundation and the sustainable build of the economy.

Look at all that GOOD SEASONING covering every dish on table, of a home cooked meal, for everyone to enjoy.

Black People have been dismissed, NOT because they are a tyrant of a culture, but because of the brown and black skin tone (MELANINE). Melanin (being black) is out of our control and yet it is the ONLY factor used as a reason for turning a nose up at.

That Good Seasoning

Black People are a proud people full of vigor, life, dance, song, community/village and just plain old GOOD SEASONING. Juneteenth is about remembering who we were, who we are, and who we will become.

You remember the past, not linger in it, but to know the ‘why’ we are where we are now and where we will be going.  The past are lessons learned and journeys traveled, a template you can say, so the next generations will pick up the torch and keep moving forward through new adversities. Black Youth, it is now your turn to add some new seasoning to a home cook meal; let’s keep it real – not take out. LOL

That Good Seasoning!

Rooted Deep Within

What is ROOTED so deep in the SOUL of ‘a people’s’ DNA that gives them joy in TRYING to make an entire culture stay small and/or fall and/or disappear? There are some answers you will never know, so jump over the question and keep moving forward. Being created with brown and black skin and with a higher level of intellect is beyond the black culture’s control; which mean ‘a peoples’ fight should be God the actual creator and not the creation.

Summary

Equality in the human race exist among all cultures because we were all given a hierarchy of thought process and creation. We arrived long ago and continue to arrive through adversities, inequalities and out right ugliness. Juneteenth reminds us all that Black People were here from the beginning and will not be going anywhere. Let’s celebrate the present day and every future day of being Black and Proud.

Thank you to all cultures that worked side by side with Black People to bring about all of our freedom to commune and grow with each other as one race.
