We had no money to ‘work.’ We did not have any college graduates in our family. Our income basis was Welfare. We ate our grilled cheese sandwiches made with ‘government cheese.’ We made our cereal with free powdered milk. We did this happily and blissfully. One only knows what they know. Our relatives did the best they could for us. They told us to go to school and get an education. They taught us what they knew. The government made sure we were taught what they wanted us to know—how to fill out an application and find work. To make the rule of 72 work, unbeknownst to us, for someone else and not for ourselves.
